The Perfect Margarita

Posted by Will Robinson on

I know you've been waiting your entire life for this one recipe. THE PERFECT MARGARITA (queue angelic horns). Well here it is in all of simple and wholesome goodness. Few things in this world are as good as a traditional margarita. If you're looking for a super-sweet, margaritaville style marg, this one's probably not for you. Tart, but well balanced, this cocktail is simple to make, has a relatively low calorie count, and can be expanded upon till the cows come home. Because of it's simplicity, the cocktail is only as good as the quality of ingredients.

What you need:

  • 1.5 oz. blanco tequila (100% agave! No cheap bullshit!)
  • .75 oz. orange liqueur (Cointro, Bauchant, etc.)
  • Grapefruit bitters (optional)
  • 1 Lime halved
  • 2 tbls. Kosher salt (fine grain)
  • Ice

Pour salt onto small plate or saucer. Rim a rocks or tom collins glass with a sliced side of lime and tap into salt. In a shaker (optional), add tequila, juice from 1 half of lime, and orange liqueur and shake for 10 seconds. (If you don't have a shaker, a mason jar with lid works well.) Pour into glass and add more ice. Hit with a few jigs of grapefruit bitters to add a bit of depth.
